You’re wondering whether it’s time to break up with your house and get back out there. You still love it, but are you still in love with it? If you’ve been thinking about a break-up, there may be something to it.
Write the pros and cons
Consider your home’s qualities. What are its best features? Its worst? Make a simple, thorough pros-and-cons list; writing it all down is the best way to see the big picture. Are the negatives fixable? Fixable but too expensive? Maybe you love the home enough to invest in it.
Here’s an example:

There’s a lot to love about this home. But the cons are about location and feeling isolated. These homeowners may love their house, and it may still be worth moving to a more community-friendly location with better schools for the kids. The house itself may not be enough to overcome obstacles that can’t be changed.
Think about where you want to be
Ultimately, consider your goals. Where do you see yourself in five years? If the cons on your list are always on your mind, your happiness is probably worth the temporary headache of moving. It may be hard to imagine loving another house as much, but with time you will fall in love again, and the next one may be the one.
